The apparent first pressing cd with train label states released 1984 in the listing , as far as i can tell the discs were pressed by PDO ,which started production in Oct 1985 >.. The label text does indeed state "POLYGRAM" ... But clarification is needed regarding if ,indeed any cd's were pressed by another manufacturer attributable to being in production "1984" ... otherwise i suggest the first press/release would be OCT 85 at the earliest, onwards ...likely 1986 , two full years away from the stated 1984 . more info is needed to clarify this production date/manufacturer ,the "train" label is established likely as a first style issue .- Edited one year agoVery clean, clear, and vibrant remaster. Upon arrival, vinyl was much cleaner than my copy of the Single Man reissue. Happy to have this remaster along with my 80's pressing. But why place the hype sticker direclty on the jacket as opposed to the shrink? Ugh!
- I'm not as disappointed with this reissue as some of the others, but it's just not as good as my 1980s pressings. It's not as crisp. It doesn't seem to be as bad but like all the new pressings this also has too much bass.

The CD and jewel case back copy say 'Made in West Germany' and 'Printed in West Germany'. But Country = 'US'. Should the country be West Germany?referencing Breaking Hearts (LP, Album, Stereo) 822 088-1Q

After the comeback and mega-success of 2 Low 4 Zero this album had an awful lot to live up to. Did it? No. What's important here is that the old band of Davy Johnstone, Dee Murray and Nigel Olsen are back on board as Elton tries to find the old magic of his 70s work and even though the band play as an ensemble, a lot had changed in the music world from 1974 to 1984. Production was now click-clack, synth driven and quantized in the digital domain of MIDI. There are some standouts such as 'In Neon', 'Passengers' and the big gospel grandeur of 'Sad Songs'. The title track itself, 'Breaking Hearts', harks back to 'Elton's Song' with just vocal and piano with a sparse arrangement of vocals for the chorus. The rockier material is a little lacklustre and the band fail to cook on these forgettable outings. Maybe live they could conjour up more energy. All in all, it's not a bad album but the real meat is not as plentyful as one would like!
